Bite Adjustments (Equlibration)
When biting straight together or when sliding the jaw sideways or forward, the teeth should touch evenly. If certain teeth or restorations touch unevenly or “collide” during lateral movements of the jaw, the bite should be adjusted. When there is significant adjustment that needs to be done, we like to do a trial adjustment on stone models mounted in an articulator. To get the bite adjustment perfect, we have a T-Scan 8 computer bite force evaluation instrument and software.
Full Mouth Reconstruction
Reconstructions (crowing all of the teeth) are done for patients that have badly worn or broken down teeth. The first step in starting a reconstruction is to evaluate the bite. That includes a diagnostic mounting in an articulator and doing a trial wax up. Reconstructions are difficult and require a very skilled laboratory technician to fabricate the crowns and get the bite correct.
